Shreveport Auto Dealers Explain Why There are No New Cars – News Radio 710 KEEL

Like most folks, the car business is a mystery to me. And if you don’t think the process of buying or selling a vehicle is perplexing, let me make this point. I have a friend who teaches a college class on how to buy a car.

But this much I know for sure. The new car lots across the Ark-La-Tex are empty and everybody is wondering why.

And on top of that, why does it seem that no politicians – on either side of the aisle at any level – seem to be crying out in defense of the industry. Nobody at the federal, state or local level – anywhere – is demanding that somebody do something to get vehicles to Americans.

But could that be it’s not that nobody cares, but because the de…….

The best cars of 2022 aren’t the innovative EVs – Axios

Some of the most innovative electric vehicles we’ve test-driven in the past year were snubbed as 2022 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year, announced on Tuesday.

Driving the news: The Lucid Air sedan, Rivian R1T pickup and Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover utility were all finalists for best vehicles in their category, but they lost out to traditional models from well-known brands.

The winners: Honda Civic (car), Ford Maverick (truck) and Ford Bronco (utility). The jury: 50 leading automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada (including yours truly).

My thought bubble: The winners stood out for their value for the money and, in the case of the Bronco, technology that ena…….

GM Takes Aim at Carvana, Vroom With Used-Car Website – The Wall Street Journal

The market for selling used cars online has exploded during the pandemic. Now, General Motors Co. wants to help its dealers secure a bigger piece.

The Detroit auto maker is launching a new website called CarBravo that will help U.S.-based GM dealers market and sell used cars online, competing directly with Carvana Co. and other retailers that have embraced virtual sales in the past couple of years.

Tesla sold a record 70,847 China-made vehicles in December, China group says – CNBC

U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla sold 70,847 China-made vehicles in December, the highest monthly rate since it started manufacturing in Shanghai in 2019, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed on Tuesday.

Tesla’s December sales, which included 245 for export, were almost three times the amount achieved in the same month last year and 34% higher than November’s sales.

It also brought Tesla’s total sales of China-made cars for last year to at least 473,078, a…….

A new reality check on self-driving cars – Axios

Some carmakers and tech companies say they’re preparing to deliver self-driving cars to consumers within just a few years, a fresh promise that makes it seem like 2016 again. But beware the hype.

Why it matters: Your car might be capable of driving itself in the not-too-distant future, but only under certain conditions, like favorable weather or within certain geographic limits. And the timetable is squishy at best.

Safety experts fear that the companies’ pronouncements could build unrealistic expectations or — worse — prompt consumers to leave too much of the driving to their automobiles.

Driving the news: Up until now, the industry has been working mostly on robotaxis an…….

Tesla, GM Hype Autonomous Cars, But Offer Automated Features (For Now) – TheStreet

Since car bigwigs promised the arrival of autonomous cars in 2017, I check each year to see if they are already here.

Tesla and General Motors (GM) recently grabbed the headlines for their self-driving options, but both manufacturers still insist that a human driver must remain alert and supervise the system in case they need to take back control suddenly.

“What we have in the market today is automated cars not autonomous cars”, Brian Moody, executive editor at Autotrader, told me by phone. “Autonomous car means you get in in the car and the car does everything. We don’t have it yet.”

The Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), which sets standards for the engineering i…….
